Some new some old!

Well, the boss portrait in my last post was new. These are a little older, from a bit of freelance for an arcade shooter. Fun stuff though!

My apologies for not updating in so long! It's really ridiculous how busy I've been, even though thats the opposite of an excuse. Seriously, who cites doing to much art as a reason not to post it?! :P

BUT! BUTBUTBUTBUT! There is good news! Great news actually! My "airship game" has a title! And a development blog! The reason for this is because after the work I've done on it recently, I might actually be able to release a playable version in the near-ish future! Not a finished game mind you, but something you can sink your teeth into at the least. I plan on updatin' this bad boy at least bi-weekly with new art and stuff I've worked on, so check it out! Follow it if you have a tumblr!

Check out the blog here!: http://nationofwind.tumblr.com/

Dood, awesome trailer man! Cant even begin to imagine how much work it takes to make tat kinda stuff, super inspirational.

Suggestion for the trailer itself, when "A one of a kind experience" comes up, it feels like part of the game. I didnt catch it at first until some other verbiage popped up, might wanna either make a cut-away spelling that out, or make it a bit more pronounced so it pops from the game screen, like a big-ass drop shadow or something.

Sorry, really crappy solutions, Im super hung-over, but hopefully that makes sense. Help the key-points stick out more from the actual game play.

I always look forward to coming to your thread for updates man, cant wait to jump on this, wish it was launched in time for SDCC. You totally need to set up there, maybe pixel prints, have some screens going with ur trailers, let ppl play the games, etc.

Agreed, but unfortunately not possible at the moment...was recently informed that I won't have a job for much longer, and I was already tight for cash before that. My hope is to start submitting the game to competitions after it's released, hopefully win some prize money that I can just keep re-investing into it as well as giving me a fucking leg up, I've been living paycheck to paycheck for three years now, it's about time I got a real job.

Heya guys, wanted to update you all since "A Nation of Wind" is now available as a free download!

Download it here!

I've been busy promoting it as much as possible, as well as getting out updates for bugs and gameplay tweaks. The game is in a kind of nice state at this point, with almost all bugs ironed out and some fun (if a bit complex) gameplay!

There is of course the trailer earlier in this thread, but I've also gotten a new one put together by a skillful volunteer that is about 6 minutes long and does a good job of explaining the basics of "A Nation of Wind":

Let me know what you guys think! I'll probably be posting some artwork from the game in here as soon as I put the sprite sheets together!

hey, jwilkins, I've downloaded your game some days ago, but just today I put my hands on it, and played a little. I'm a huge fan of the 16 bit era videogaming (more exactly, of the SNES), so I'll give some feedback based on this.

Graphicwise your game resembles a lot many Genesis games (especially Dune and Toe Jam & Earl), and it is really looking good. Unfortunately the gameplay of keyboard + mouse kills that feel a little bit. Looking back to that time, and even a little bit later, with all the games for Windows 95 that I played, could be played with one or another. To me, it doesn't feel right (but probably this is just me).

Don't know for sure if I like the world exploration + strategy feeling of the game. I thought you would be making something more like Actraiser when I first saw some of your work at some forum (can't remember if it was here or at the Pixelation), with the two aspects separated. But I guess I missed some stages of your development and maybe your game was like this all way round.

As for the in-game tutorial, I think you should do something more like Anno 1701, with a more practical tutorial, kinda like a Level 0 of the game.

Congratulations on the game, man. Keeping working on it. Good to see this release.

ps.: By no way I meant to be harsh on my comments, so forgive me if I sounded like this way.
ps.2: Sorry for my english. It's been quite a while since I last wrote this much in english.
